We're reading the 'Hunger Games' as our class novel at the moment and loving it! We've been doing a few activities surrounding the novel, including some character descriptions and excellent creative writing. Have a read and look through what some of the kids have been doing below......
I estimate 20 seconds before the horn sounds. I am tossing between to stratagies, grabbing some smaller items then running into the woods or sprinting to the cornucopia and trying to clean up the other tributes. With 10 seconds to go I decide on comprimise,sprint to the cornucopia, grab food, water and my preffered weapon, a club then run into the woods. I count down in my head 5,4 I was extremely nervous yet excited because I had been training for this my whole life. 3,2,1 the horn sounds and I start sprinting towards the corncopia.
The start of the Hunger Games: As I come out of the glass cylinder I get my first glimpse at the arena. The junngle off to my left, a reasonable sized lake off to my right and the cornucopia infront of me. Supplies were scattered everywhere but the best weapons and supplies will be at the cornucopia. My strategy for the games were: Get supplies and weapons that weren't at the cornucopia, get water then run to the jungle. The minute will almost be up now I thought. I 'm beginning to wonder wh owill die first. The gong goes off and I instantly run to the nearest backpack...
We all sit, swallowed in silence, while Effie reaches into the glass bowl. She opens up the slip of paper and see the carefully written name before I hear it. It's MY name. This can't be happening. I'm frozen on the spot and can't move a muscle - I can't even shut my eyes. I can only see ... and hear. There's my brother screaming, "It's not fair. I WANT TO GO!" There's my Mum standing protectively infront of me screaming, "She only just turned 12!" I want someone to comfort her, because I can't move my mouth. There's Effie standing there, impatiently looking at her watch. She sighs. I want to wake up from this horrible nightmare, but I can't. Not exactly the best birthday in the world.
i walked out onto the arena looking at all the other trubutes.i see the girl from district 6 cring and i see the boy from district 3 knoring on his finger nails. we all wait for the cannon to go off.then ...BANG every one runs to grab something.i see about six people dead i grab the semi automatic and run towards the jungle and wait for for every one to leave
Effie calls out my name.Everone stares at me. my mind goes blank.I feel like im not there like my spirt has left me.I slowly sumble up to the sage my family screaming at me.Before i get to the stage i fall on the hard concret. i've fanted. I foke up with faces looking at me. i'm blinded by the sun.My mouth as dry as saw dust, I broke my arm and have the a dozen cut.My life is fading away even before the games have started.
The Hunger games. Todays the Reaping. the boy tribute has already been chosen. It is now time for the girl tribute. My heart skips a few beats as Effie reads out MY NAME "Jayney Kerr". She repeats it "Jayney Kerr". I suddenly start shaking and sweating from every pore in my body. i slowly turn to look at my family then slowly look at my friends. I start to make my way up onto to the stage trying not to show how scared I am. The crowd is silent and all you can hear is my parents crying a river of tears. I am so afraid! my heart starts pounding like it is about to burst out of my chest. Whaen I am on the stage I realise that from all the computer games that I play that I might actually have a chance to win this or at least survive for a while!
Effie picks a name from the glass bowl. "Ella Gilroy". She reads into the microphone. My jaw dropped, I was shocked, horrified and really excited. I only entered my name in twice. Effie gave me a scary smile as I wondered up to the stage."Any volunteers" Effie asks. No-one answered," We have a tribute from district 2" Said Effie ...
Today is the day every family dreads, today is the reaping.
The reaping bell rings all of district 11 crowds in to the small space outside the mayor’s house.
All of a sudden Tara starts speaking she’s talking some rubbish about how it’s the 100th year of the hunger games blah blah blah etc. then finally when she shuts her well feed gob she decides to announce the tributes she does the boy tribute first i hear the name DAVID RECKAR I he steps forward his parents grinning and happily telling each other that they will finally be ridden of him I see my older sister almost in tears because he WAS her boyfriend, then Tara says “well let’s call up the girl tribute” she pick up the first letter the first she sees holding it like it’s a dead cockroach and says “LILLY GREENFINGER” I stand there staring at my little sister as she looks at me wanting reassurance then I here mum scream that makes come to my senses I run towards Lilly all the kids make way for me as I run to her as soon as I catch up to her I tackle her to the ground and yell “ I Cara Greenfinger volunteer as tribute” I say. As I make my up to the stage mum screams and cries but I can’t hear her because I can hear is my heart beating and my lungs hyperventilating as I reach the stage steps I stop breathing and start gagging for breath then I fall the last thing I see before black out is a wooden step heading towards my face then bang I’m out.
When I finally wake up all i can smell is urine and when I open my eyes I see a large circle around me but strangely they are keeping a good distance when I stand up Tara tells me and old man urinated on me to bring me back round.
Effie reads out my name and I was in shock, I pinched myself to see if this was real, yep it was. I slowly make my way to the stage with excitement. The crowd claps and claps for me.
Effie reads out my name and I am shocked. My eyes are wide in horror and I'm frozen to the spot. Someone bumps into me and I take a step forward to regain my balance. The crowd takes this as my first step towards the stage and erupts into applause. I have no choice but to go up now. Effie smiles warmly at me and I return a nervous smile. Then she pulls out the boys name.
I can't wait for the movie to come out.

The book is AMAZING!!!!! Hope The movie is that good to!!!!
